Seriously, I need to explore this area a bit more, I did that with Bear Creek last summer and it really paid off. I know the trails are a bit more urban on this river, but still.
Listening to the Iowa politics on the radio on the drive home was rather depressing. Being a limited-government guy, I want to believe the Republicans mean it when they talk about freedom, but instead they botch it so badly they make it radioactive and nobody will touch it for 4-8 years. Since I advocate political freedom in all areas, I'm socially liberal and I'm opposed to forcing private religion on the country. Is this any different from Sharia law, except in degree? GOP immigration policy is bizarrely out of sync with American ideals (prosecuting businesses that -- in an entirely peaceful commercial transaction --- hire illegals? Really?). Ron Paul is OK on commerce but bad in other areas. At the same time, I can't stomach the explicit socialism of the Democrats. I wish Gary Johnson had a real shot.
