Through The San Luis Valley

A few shots along a recent drive through Colorado's San Luis Valley. This is just south of Poncha Pass, taken in the rear view mirror of the mountains west of Salida:

Kit Carson (left) and Crestone Peak/Needle below. Kit Carson nearly handed me my rear on a platter when I got off course near the summit a couple of times. As I get into the mid thirties in terms of 14ers, things are getting a tad more difficult.

Sunset glow on the Sangres:

Wolf Creek Pass. No idea why these cars were driving 20 under the speed limit on totally dry pavement, but I rocketed by at the first passing section. I drive right at the legal limit; no faster, but sure as hell not slower. Sheesh.

I also don't like traveling [cue grumpy old man mode] as I'm fairly impatient and have a hard time sitting still in a seat for more than a few hours. But if you have to travel, Colorado isn't a bad place to do it.
