Monument Canyon

I did a short run west of Fruita on Saturday morning. Beautiful and... monumental... terrain. It was cold enough to produce frost the prior night, so it was chilly in the shadows but already warm in the sun at 9 AM.

A spire-like view of Independence Monument in the left background:

And the same rock from the side (on the left):

I didn't want to spend too much time so I ran about 3 miles and turned around, which is about halfway to the rim road.

Distance was 6.27 miles, time 1:23 (moving 1:08), elevation gain/loss 976 feet, avg. pace 13:23 (moving 10:57), and best pace 7:49.
